Operations, Manufacturing: Fix It, Buy New — or Do I Need One at All?

If you landed on this page, chances are you already have a blaster — or more than one — running in your plant. Here you will find how it is made in general, its working principles, its main components, the care they need, and an overview of what the market offers. So before any layout or spec, the real questions are: do I fix what I have, or do I buy another one? And if I buy — what happens to the old machine?

Start with one test. When the dishwasher breaks at home, it is annoying — you survive: a working dishwasher is a nice-to-have, the working boiler is a must. By day two without hot water, someone is waiting for you with a knife, or with a lawyer's letter. And if you run a restaurant, the argument flips: there, the dishwasher is the must. Context is everything. Now look at your blaster: in your production flow, is it a nice-to-have or a must? In a glassworks, the machine cleaning the molds is a must: a plant with millions in assets, producing goods worth millions, can stop over a spare worth a couple of hundred. Does that make sense?

If your blaster or peener is a must, the reference model is not in manufacturing — it is in the sky. The largest organization on Earth by revenue has a chief executive who must fly safely to do his job, and the only possible solution is redundancy: Air Force One is two airplanes — comical, right? — so that one is always available, no matter what. No spare-parts strategy and no maintenance contract beats a second machine ready to run.

Landing back in our offices — nobody here is the US president — the same logic scales down to your own house: next to the primary boiler running on gas or diesel, a small second one running on electricity. A small side investment, a small running cost to keep it efficient — and it pays back in pure quietness: "push a button, turn that valve in the closet, we will figure it out when I am back home tonight." Context, once again: context.

This changes the fix-or-replace question completely. Sometimes the right answer is to buy the new machine and keep the old one alive as your second Air Force One. Sometimes a proper retrofit makes the old one the primary for another decade. What decides is not the machine — it is how critical the process is, and what one day of stoppage actually costs you.

And if your question is the third one — "do I need one at all?" — start from your process, not from a catalog: the full path is here.

Hiring a consultant is your insurance policy: no sales quotas to hit and no brand bias to protect. For a fraction of the cost of a new machine or a failed retrofit, you get an objective tech analysis focused on your business only.
